Types and symptoms of ADHD
Three types of ADHD can be defined: Inattention, Hyperactivity, and Impulsivity. The symptoms of inattention are getting distracted, having short concentration, and poor organizational skills. The symptoms of hyperactivity are people who keep talking, trying to move around fidgeting, and can’t stay on task. The symptoms of impulsivity are interrupting and taking risks. Boys are often seen as more hyperactive and girls are more inattention type. Each kind of ADHD has different symptoms. Another situation that may occur is the combined type, it is a combination of inattention or hyperactive-impulsive. The most common symptom in preschool-aged children is hyperactivity. ADHD can be a lifelong challenge but fortunately medication and other treatments support and help their quality of life.
Medication
Most of the medications used for ADHD are stimulants. Stimulants have a lower chance of getting side effects. However, there are still many side effects of this kind of medication, such as anxiety or irritability, decreased appetite, headaches, increased blood pressure, sleep issues, stomachaches, and tics.
Conclusion
These may advantages and benefits include high focus, resilience, creativity, conversational skills, spontaneity, and high energy. People with ADHD have unique perspectives that others may find interesting and valuable. They tend to have more focus on the things they are interested in the most. They can do that one thing for a long time that normal people can’t. ADHD is hard to overcome but once you do, ADHD is not as bad as the public thinks. There are unique advantages for those patients.
